English as the Medium of Instruction in English Teacher Education BA Programs

Some the basic competences of an English teacher are a command of the language to be taught, an understanding of the cultural components of language learning, an understanding of the teaching-learning process (including assessment), among others. With this in mind, the restructuring of the BA in English Language teaching at the Faculty of Languages, UAEMéx redesigned the majority of courses to be taught in English. This represents a challenge both to the students and the teaching staff, which many programs the follow a Content-Based approach have faced, in determining the main focus of the course and its assessment, i.e. language development or assimilation of the content. This talk will present a comparison of the previous and current curriculum, a brief discussion of the challenges students in both (current and previous curriculum) programs and teaching staff face.
