Inglés Presencial Conferencia magistral Foro de investigadores en enseñanza de lenguas.
The internationalization of higher education (HE) and the global spread of English have motivated an exponential increase in the number of universities worldwide touting their international policies while offering English-medium instruction (EMI). This paper takes a contrarian and critical view of internationalisation in HE and the wide-spread adoption of EMI. I examine the case of Catalan universities and how they portray themselves on their webpages. I explain how these webpages are imbued with discourses of academic capitalism, according to which knowledge is only valid if it is marketable, researchers are entrepreneurs and HE and research are at the service of global capitalism and neoliberal rationalities.
